Students of the Ethics Institute Launch Lodestar, an Ethics Journal
Lodestar will be the Ethics Institute’s new academic journal, reviewed, edited, and published by Kent Place students. The journal is dedicated to promoting the application of ethics in everyday life and aims to educate its readers about ethical issues and to encourage curiosity and discourse around ethical dilemmas.
Lodestar editors-in-chief Naina Bhardwaj ’25, Helen Wu ’25, and Olivia Peters ’26 have called for student submissions, which must be received by the end of this month. The plan is to publish the journal in the early months of 2025.
Lodestar invites students to be creative. They can write and submit a traditional academic journal article, a visual artistic piece, a poem, a case study, photography, or whatever other format feels best to think ethically.
“This year, I’m excited about launching Lodestar because I believe it has the potential to make ethics more accessible and widespread across our school, especially for students who want to explore ethics as a potential future field of study,” says Naina. “I also feel that it’s important to highlight students’ work and accomplishments, as so many people within the Kent Place community have interesting, original, and brilliant ideas to contribute not only to our school but to society as a whole as well. I’m looking forward to seeing how our leadership team and contributors shape the journal.”
“We’re really excited about this new publication on campus,” says Anna Conti, Associate Director of the Ethics Institute. “Lodestar would be among the first journals of its kind in a high school setting, and we’re eager to engage with student ideas on ethics. We can’t wait for the first issue!”
