Kent Place Middle School Introduces REBOOT Jr.
The Ethics Institute at Kent Place School is excited to introduce REBOOT (Rethinking Ethical Behavior Online for Oneself Together) Jr. — similar to the Upper School’s REBOOT. The leaders of the group, Eva Obalde ’29, Ananya Mittal ’29, and Rhiya Parmar ’29, each have a specific area of focus.
Ananya is working on a REBOOT Jr. summit, tentatively scheduled for spring, whose goals are to build connections with other schools, teach them about REBOOT, and collaborate with an outside speaker to discuss a particular topic. Rhiya has helped to draft the group’s mission statement, which is “to teach our Middle School community to explore the benefits of technology and social media while simultaneously setting ethical and digital boundaries.” Rhiya is also leading efforts to engage the Primary School in different age-appropriate ethical considerations regarding technology. Eva is working to put together ethical case studies specific to the Middle School, and is creating conversation cards to initiate ethical conversations.
“Middle school is the time when students our age most commonly obtain personal devices,” Rhiya says. “This is why it’s so important to be a part of REBOOT Jr.: to educate, guide, and bring awareness to the ethical use of technology and social media, not only in Middle School but also beyond.”
Says Alicia Regnault, Educational Technology & Support Specialist and REBOOT Jr. advisor, “This initiative will empower students to foster responsible and ethical digital habits, supporting each other in thoughtful internet use. Collaborating with other schools and engaging with expert speakers to enrich our community is something I’m excited to bring to life.”
