Dr. Gene Cautillo Joins the Ethics Institute as Interim Associate Director

The Ethics Institute at Kent Place is pleased to welcome Dr. Gene Cautillo as its Interim Associate Director. Bringing extensive experience in both academia and business, Dr. Cautillo will draw on his background in ethics, education, and corporate leadership to support the Institute’s programming and mission.

“Gene has been a valued member of our Ethics Institute community for several years, and we’re thrilled to welcome him in this new capacity,” says Dr. Karen Rezach, Director of the Ethics Institute. “His extensive experience in both corporate ethics and higher education, combined with his passion for engaging students in meaningful ethical dialogue, will be a tremendous asset to our team.”

Dr. Cautillo spent much of his corporate career working in the Compliance and Ethics departments at Prudential and Guardian, with additional experience spanning human resources, risk management, operations, and other business functions. He holds a Doctorate in Management and International Business from Pace University, an M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a B.S. in Marketing and Human Resources from Susquehanna University.

Most recently, Dr. Cautillo taught ethics and marketing at New Jersey City University, following previous teaching appointments at Susquehanna, Pace, and Centenary Universities. Throughout his academic career, he has developed student competitions focused on business strategy and research, advised students participating in national and international ethics competitions, and contributed to graduate studies and curriculum development.

Dr. Cautillo is also no stranger to Kent Place. Since 2019, he has volunteered with the Ethics Institute in various capacities, including participating in Ethics Bowl programming. Most recently, he co-facilitated Bloomberg & Beyond: Ethics in Our Economy, an Ethics Institute summer program held this past July.

In his new role, Dr. Cautillo will also oversee a project supported by a recent grant from the Kern Family Foundation. The grant will help extend the Ethics Institute’s work beyond Kent Place through the development of online platforms and educational videos, making its resources and approach to ethical decision-making accessible to a broader audience.

“Having been involved with the Ethics Institute for several years, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of its work and the incredible opportunities it provides for students,” says Dr. Cautillo. “I’m excited to take on this new role and help expand the Institute’s reach, bringing ethical education and meaningful dialogue to even more students and communities.”
