2026–2027 Empowered Parent Series Kicks Off with Ethics 101

2026–2027 Empowered Parent Series Kicks Off with Ethics 101

On Thursday, September 24, the Ethics Institute at Kent Place kicked off this year’s Empowered Parent Series with “Ethics 101,” an interactive workshop designed to help parents navigate ethical questions and engage in meaningful conversations with their daughters.

Led by Dr. Karen Rezach, Director of the Ethics Institute, the session introduced participants to the Institute’s Ethical Decision-Making Method, providing a framework for approaching complex situations and making thoughtful, informed decisions.

Throughout the workshop, Dr. Rezach explored the differences between ethics and morality, encouraging parents to consider how their personal values influence their decisions.

Participants examined real-world scenarios, including a family movie night that presents an unexpected ethical dilemma, and worked through the classic “trolley problem,” which challenges individuals to weigh competing values, potential consequences, and their responsibilities to others.

The discussion also explored different approaches to ethical reasoning, from considering the greatest good to evaluating the intentions behind an action. Parents were encouraged to reflect on how they can model ethical decision-making and help their daughters navigate difficult choices at school and beyond.

The Ethics Institute will continue to offer opportunities for parents to engage in thoughtful dialogue throughout the year. Upcoming events include:

  • October 20 – Empowered Parent Series: REBOOT and AI
  • November 5 – Ethics Institute and Community Life and Well-Being Parent Chat

You can register for those sessions here. Additional information about upcoming sessions and registration will be shared with families in the Kent Place Navigator.
